Reviewer: BigAlUK - - January 13, Subject: Getting ahead of yourself Gavin, again, you need to curtail your enthusiasm for announcing virus presence just because of the odd one or two contributions by AV tools that reject things because of excessive criteria expired certificates, detection-by-association, and in some cases just-not-whitelisted.

Trust can be established by the big-name engines finding no fault, not by leaping to conclusions because of the odd as-yet-unheard-of newcomer. I've written many a simple "Hello World" program using various languages and compilers that have obtained such "apparently worrying" low scores, and have since discovered that not buying into an expensive "certification" system is actually the problem here.

Ooo - it doesn't have a certificate and they haven't bought their way onto a whitelist - lets start a potential blacklist! It has the potential to kill all open-source software initiatives.

The problem is that some of these small-name AV tool makers are just lazy. I've even encountered some that appear to just regurgitate out-of-date results by others. I am running Vmware Workstation Pro version Before installing service pack 1. The installation instructions told me to install Internet Explorer 6 service pack 1 and disable system file protection prior to installation of service pack version 1.

I would like to know why I must disable Windows ME system file protection? If I leave system file protection enabled will it disable the Windows ME service pack version 1. How do I disable Windows ME system file protection? Also, is there any way we can update Windows ME system file protection so that it won't disable the installed Windows ME service pack version 1. The computer runs on Microsoft Windows ME. What do you think is wrong. I can post up the info about my computer from hijack this if it will help. I really, really need this working soon. Much appreciated.

Joined Mar 26, Messages 1, A far as I'm aware there were no service packs for Windows ME. The original poster, by the looks of it, was trying to install Windows service pack 4, which would explain his problems.

I'd guess you're trying to do similar with service pack 2 for either Windows or XP. No, I am trying to install service pack 2 in to ME, but getting the exact same error messages.
